Arrived.
Where the Kamp river carved its path long ago, among impressive vineyards, idyllic villages, and old cellar lanes, we feel at home and settled. Who are we? Let us elaborate a bit, for there is much to tell.
Every beginning has its own magic.
It all began at the start of the 20th century, four generations ago, with Franz Emma Wutzl in our wonderful hometown of Gobelsburg in the Kamptal region. As was common in rural areas at the time, they lived off a mixed agricultural business. Specifically, this meant that they devoted most of their valuable time to arable farming, livestock farming, and the first family-owned vineyards.
Quality is not perfection, but the pursuit of it
The business was then continued by Franz Leopold Anna Wutzl. Early on, they recognized the great potential hidden in the Kamptal wines. Gradually, viticulture moved more into the foreground and eventually became the main source of income for our family. At a time when a good yield often still seemed to be the most important thing, they consciously decided to take a different path: they wanted to focus entirely on producing wines of the highest quality. Franz was also very politically engaged and was the mayor of Gobelsburg for over 10 years, co-responsible for the renewal of the village infrastructure.
Nothing is as constant as change
With the takeover of the business by Franz Elisabeth Wutzl, a fresh wind blew through the estate. They aimed for a modernization of the winery, which was implemented with the addition of a new hall for grape processing in 2002. During this time, several renowned vineyard plots in Gobelsburg were also acquired, and the estate grew to its current size of about 17 hectares of vineyard area. After graduating from the viticulture school in Klosterneuburg and completing instructive internships in Piedmont and New Zealand, son Franz-Josef finally joined the business. The multi-generational family history experience in the winemaking craft, along with the new ideas of young winemaker Franz-Josef, make our winery what it is today.
